Get a weekly competitor digest

You will have a list of five sources, a weekly checking routine and a short digest template.

Before you start

  • Two or three competitors or similar businesses
  • A weekly slot of fifteen minutes

Step 1: Pick five public sources

Use things anyone can see: their pricing page, blog, social posts, job listings and ad library entries. Write each link in a note.

Step 2: Check weekly

  1. Put a fifteen-minute slot in your calendar.
  2. Open each source and copy any new text or note a screenshot.
  3. Add the date and the source name.

Step 3: Summarise what changed

Prompt you can copy

Here are this week’s notes from five public competitor sources, with the date and source for each: [paste] Summarise what changed in five bullets. Mark each as price, product, message or hiring. Say how sure you are, and do not guess what they plan to do next.

Step 4: Decide one action

Write one thing you will do or choose to ignore this week. A digest nobody acts on is just reading.

  • Use only public information.
  • Do not log in to a competitor’s accounts or use someone else’s password.
  • Do not copy their text or images.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Tracking too many sources
  • Guessing a competitor’s plans
  • Using private or logged-in information
  • Never acting on the digest

Final checklist

  • I listed five public sources
  • I check them weekly
  • My digest has one decision
  • I only used public information
