Turn an idea into a simple interactive demo

You will have one working demo you can open in a browser and explain to someone else in a minute.

Before you start

  • An idea you can describe in a few sentences, such as how savings grow or how a queue behaves
  • An assistant that can produce a single web page

Step 1: Pick one idea

Choose something with one or two things the viewer can change, such as a price and a number of customers. Small is better. You can add more later.

Step 2: Describe it clearly

Prompt you can copy

Build a single-page interactive demo in plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript with no outside libraries. Topic: [idea]. The viewer can change: [inputs]. The page shows: [results]. Use these formulas and rules exactly: [your rules]. Keep the design clean and readable on a phone.

If you do not know the formula, ask the assistant to explain it first and check it yourself before building.

Step 3: Check the maths

  1. Try three inputs where you already know the result.
  2. Compare the output with your own calculation.
  3. Try a zero and a very large number to see if it breaks.
  4. Fix one problem at a time and test again.

Step 4: Share it carefully

  • Do not publish anything that asks for personal details.
  • Say that the demo is a simplified model and not advice.
  • Read through the code for anything that contacts another site, if you are not sure what it does.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Starting with too many inputs
  • Trusting the maths without testing
  • Publishing a model as if it were advice
  • Running code you do not understand from an unknown source

Final checklist

  • My demo has one or two inputs
  • I tested known results
  • It works on a phone
  • I labelled it as a simple model
