Use your likeness in AI video safely
You will have a written set of rules for any AI video that uses your face or voice, and a safe first test.
Before you start
- An AI video tool you are thinking of using
- A clear reason, such as saving time on repeated videos
Why set rules first
Your face and voice are personal and can be misused if a copy leaks. Rules written before you start are easier to keep than rules made after something goes wrong.
Step 1: Read the tool’s terms
- Who owns the copy of your likeness?
- Can the company train on your footage?
- How do you delete it?
- What happens if you cancel?
If you cannot find the answers, treat that as a no for now.
Step 2: Write your rules
- Only my own face and voice, never anyone else’s.
- Label videos as AI-made.
- No videos that put words in my mouth that I would not say.
- No sensitive topics such as health, legal or money advice.
- Keep the source footage in a folder I control.
Step 3: Run a small, private test
Make one short video with an ordinary script and watch it. Share it only with someone you trust before it goes public.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Skipping the terms
- Not labelling AI video
- Cloning another person without their written permission
- Using it for advice you are not qualified to give
Final checklist
- I read the terms on ownership and deletion
- I wrote my own rules
- I tested privately first
- I will label every video
