Verification prompt pack
You will have five verification prompts and a rule of thumb for when to use each.
Before you start
- An AI assistant, free plan is fine
- A real task to try the prompts on
How to use this pack
Use these after an answer you plan to rely on. None of them makes an answer certain. They show you where to look.
Mark the claims
List every specific claim in your last answer. Mark each Sure, Unsure or Guess, and say how I could check it.
Ask for sources
For each claim, name the type of source that would confirm it, such as the official site or a government page. Do not invent links or titles.
Challenge the answer
Give the strongest reason my answer might be wrong, and tell me what evidence would change it.
What would an expert in this area add or correct in your answer? List up to five points.
Use only my text
Answer using only the text below. If the answer is not in it, say “not in the text”. [paste text] Question: [question]
Common mistakes to avoid
- Treating a labelled answer as verified
- Asking the same assistant to confirm itself and stopping there
- Accepting links without opening them
- Skipping the check on money, legal and health claims
Final checklist
- I checked the claims marked Unsure or Guess
- I opened any source it named
- I checked high-stakes claims myself
