Compare AI image tools fairly

You will have a side-by-side scorecard and a clear choice of which tool to use for which job.

Before you start

  • Free access to two image tools
  • Five things you actually need pictures of

Make it a fair test

A comparison is only useful if both tools get the same job. Write five prompts based on real needs and use the exact same words in each tool.

Step 1: Run the prompts

  1. Run each prompt once in each tool.
  2. Save every image with the tool name and prompt number.
  3. Do not retry the one you prefer. A retry is a different test.

Step 2: Score each image

  • Did it follow the prompt?
  • Are the details correct, such as hands and text?
  • Is the style consistent across the five?
  • Could I use it as it is?

Give each question one point, and add the scores per tool.

Step 3: Decide by job

One tool may be better for people, another for text on images. Write one line saying which you will use for which job, and check each tool’s terms on commercial use and pricing.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Retrying one tool until it wins
  • Using different prompts in each tool
  • Ignoring the terms of use
  • Judging by one image

Final checklist

  • Both tools got the same five prompts
  • I scored every image
  • I checked usage terms
  • I know which tool to use for which job
