Plan your AI learning over six months
You will have a six-month plan with one finished project each month and a weekly time slot.
Before you start
- A reason you want to learn AI, such as a job, a business or curiosity
- Two to four hours a week you can protect
Step 1: Pick a goal
Write one sentence: “In six months I want to be able to…”. Make it something you can show, like “build and use an assistant that drafts my weekly report”.
Step 2: Set one project a month
Projects teach more than reading does. Here is a pattern you can adapt.
- Month 1: use an assistant daily for one real task and keep a log.
- Month 2: write and test five reusable prompts.
- Month 3: connect an assistant to your notes or documents safely.
- Month 4: build a small routine that saves you an hour a week.
- Month 5: teach someone else what you built.
- Month 6: finish your goal project and write down what you learned.
Step 3: Protect the time
Put two sessions a week in your calendar. Short and regular beats long and rare. If you miss one, carry on with the next instead of catching up.
Step 4: Review monthly
- What did I finish?
- What did I learn that surprised me?
- What will I change next month?
Tools change quickly. Treat any plan as a draft, and keep what you can do rather than what you read.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Watching videos without building anything
- Setting a goal with no deliverable
- Planning ten hours a week you cannot keep
- Chasing every new tool
Final checklist
