Content creation
Build a content research system for short videos
You will have a weekly research routine, a swipe file of structures (not content) and a script plan for the week.
Before you start
- A topic you post about
- A short-video account or plans for one
- An hour a week
The weekly loop
- Collect: save five public examples that did well.
- Analyse: note the structure of each.
- Plan: write three scripts in your own words.
- Review: check how last week’s videos did.
Step 1: Collect structures, not content
Keep a swipe file of structures, such as “three mistakes” or “before and after”. Do not save other people’s words or footage to reuse.
Step 2: Analyse
Here are my notes on five videos: hook, length and structure. List the structures they share and one that stands out. Do not guess at reasons for their performance. [paste notes]
Step 3: Plan three scripts
Use your voice notes and your own examples. Follow the script guide, then read each aloud.
Step 4: Review results
- Note views, watch time and comments for each video.
- Mark which structure you used.
- Keep a structure if it works twice.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Saving other people’s content to reuse
- Judging a structure on one video
- Skipping the review step
- Planning more scripts than you can film
Final checklist
- I saved structures, not content
- I wrote three scripts in my words
- I reviewed last week’s results
