Turn business ideas into interactive demos
You will have a one-page model, a working demo and a short script to explain it.
Before you start
- A business idea with numbers you can estimate
- A spreadsheet
- A way to open a web page on your computer
Step 1: Model it in a spreadsheet
Write down three inputs, such as price, customers and cost. Add a formula for the result. Test it with numbers you know.
Step 2: Ask for the demo
Build a single HTML page, with no outside libraries, that lets me change [three inputs] with sliders and shows [result] and a simple chart. Use exactly these formulas: [formulas]. Label every number clearly and add a note that this is a simplified model.
Step 3: Check it
- Compare the demo with your spreadsheet for three sets of numbers.
- Try zero and very large values.
- Read the code for any web addresses and remove them.
Step 4: Present it
Write three sentences: what the demo shows, what it assumes and what it leaves out. Say these aloud to someone before showing it.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Presenting estimates as facts
- Not comparing with the spreadsheet
- Hiding assumptions
- Sharing numbers that are not yours to share
Final checklist
- The demo matches my spreadsheet
- Assumptions are visible
- I labelled it as a simplified model
