Room design prompt pack
You will have a brief template and prompts for layouts, colour and a budget check.
Before you start
- An AI assistant, free plan is fine
- A real task to try the prompts on
How to use this pack
Measure the room first. Assistants cannot see your space, so the quality of the answer depends on the measurements you give.
The room brief
Room: [name]. Size: [length] by [width] by [height] in metres. Windows: [positions]. Doors: [positions]. Must stay: [items]. Budget: [amount]. Style: [style]. Who uses it: [people].
Layout ideas
Using the room brief above, give three layouts. For each, describe where each large item goes with approximate clearances, and note any problems. Do not name products.
Colour
Suggest a three-colour palette for this room in a [style] style, with where each colour is used. Include one tip for small rooms or low light if relevant.
Shopping list
From the chosen layout, list each item I need with a maximum size and a price range. Do not name brands or invent products. I will search retailers myself.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Skipping measurements
- Buying a product an assistant named without checking it exists
- Ignoring delivery costs
- Choosing items before the layout
Final checklist
- I measured the room
- I picked one layout
- I checked every product on the retailer’s page
