Writing rules pack
You will have three rule sets for different kinds of writing and know how to adjust them.
Before you start
- An AI assistant, free plan is fine
- A real task to try the prompts on
How to use this pack
Paste one rule set before your request. Edit the rules that do not fit you. Fewer, clearer rules work better than many.
General rules
Write in short, plain sentences, under 20 words each. Start with the point. Use everyday words. No openings that praise the question. No summary at the end. No lists of three when one point will do.
Email rules
Write emails of under 120 words. Put the request in the first two lines. Use the person’s name once. No filler such as “I hope this finds you well”. End with one clear next step.
Adjust the rules
After a few drafts, note the phrases you keep deleting. Add one rule per phrase and remove any rule the assistant already follows.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Piling on rules until they clash
- Using the rules and skipping the fact check
- Never adjusting them
- Writing in a voice that is not yours
Final checklist
- I picked one rule set
- I edited it to sound like me
- I checked the facts
4. Social post rules
Write posts that open with a specific claim or question. One idea per post. No hashtags unless I ask. No emojis unless I ask. Never invent facts or numbers.
