Edit short videos with AI help
You will have one recording trimmed to under 60 seconds with captions you have checked.
Before you start
- A recording of you speaking, three to five minutes long
- A video editor that makes a transcript or captions
- An AI assistant
Plan the cut from the text
Editing from text is faster than scrubbing a timeline. Start with the transcript, decide what stays, then trim the video to match.
Step 1: Get the transcript
Use your editor’s automatic transcript, or export the captions as text. Read it through once and fix any wrong words, especially names.
Step 2: Ask for a cut list
Below is the transcript of my recording. Pick the parts that make the strongest 45 to 60 second video. Give me a cut list: the exact opening words and closing words of each part I should keep, in order. Do not rewrite my words. Mention any repeated or off-topic parts to remove. [paste transcript]
Check the cut list makes sense when read in order. A strong open and a clear end matter most.
Step 3: Edit and caption
- Cut the recording to match the cut list.
- Turn on captions and read every line against the audio.
- Keep captions short and high contrast so they read on a phone.
- Watch the whole video once with the sound off.
Check your rights
Only use music, clips and faces you have permission to use. If you feature anyone else, ask them first.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Trusting automatic captions without reading them
- Keeping a slow opening
- Using music you do not have the rights to
- Skipping the sound-off check
Final checklist
- I fixed the transcript
- I trimmed to the cut list
- I checked every caption
- I watched it with the sound off
- I own or have permission for every clip and sound
